Goals

Outcomes

1. Satisfactory graduation rates

Threshold was met. Minimum acceptable threshold was that 50% of cohort would graduate within six years. Results showed that 60% of cohort (3 out of 5 students) graduated within 6 years. Delays associated with the COVID-19 pandemic increased the time required for two students to complete degree requirements and graduate.

2. Acceptable academic progress

Threshold was met. Minimum acceptable threshold was that 90% of cohort maintain GPA of 3.0. Results showed that 100% of cohort (5 out of 5 students) maintained a GPA of at least 3.0.

3. Publish Manuscript on Dissertation Research Project

Threshold was met. Minimum acceptable threshold was that 100% of cohort publish or have accepted for publication in a peer-review journal at least one first author manuscript based on the research project. Results showed that 100% of cohort (5 out of 5 students) did publish or have accepted for publication in a peer-review journal at least one first author manuscript based on their research project. All 2022 graduates authored five or more manuscripts during their time within the PhD program (minimum-5 papers; maximum 8 papers). One graduate published three first author manuscripts, while four graduates were first authors on one of their manuscripts. Three graduates (60%) were able to publish their first author manuscript within six years. Two of the five graduates (40%) took seven years to publish their first author manuscript.

4. Write and Defend Dissertation

Threshold was not met. Minimum acceptable threshold was that 80% of cohort complete dissertation defense and submit dissertation within six years. Results showed that 60% of cohort (3 out of 5 students) completed their dissertation defense and submitted the dissertation within six years. The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in delays that increased the amount of time required for two students to submit their first author manuscript. Since acceptance of the first author manuscript is required to defend the dissertation, this delay extended the time needed for these students to complete their degree requirements, which also included writing and defending their dissertation.

5. Obtain competitive postdoctoral fellowships or employment

Threshold was met. Minimum acceptable threshold was that 80% of cohort obtain postdoctoral fellowship or are employed within one year of graduation. Results showed that 100% of cohort (5 out of 5 students) obtained postdoctoral positions or science-related jobs/employment within one year of graduation.
