Surgery

The Department of Surgery has a long tradition of excellence in healthcare and enhancing the College mission of service to underrepresented and underserved communities in Middle Tennessee. The primary teaching hospital for the Department is Nashville General Hospital at Meharry, located on the Meharry Medical College campus. The Meharry Department of Surgery is committed to providing high-quality patient care, while training medical students and residents in the art and science of surgery, and developing research programs in cancer, health services research, and student education. Significant accredited medical student training partnerships have been established in Michigan, Alabama, Texas, Ohio, and Washington that afford student clinical clerkship experiences in Trauma, Vascular Surgery, Gastrointestinal Surgery, Emergency Medicine, Acute Surgical Care. and Orthopedics Surgery.
