Orthodontics

Orthodontics (Dentofacial Orthopedics) is the area of dentistry concerned with the supervision, guidance, and correction of the growing and mature dentofacial structures, including those conditions that require movement of teeth or correction of malrelationships and malformations.

Pre-doctoral students gain knowledge in treating patients who only need preventive, interceptive, or adjunctive orthodontic therapy. Through coursework, students learn basic orthodontic theory, principles, concepts, and philosophies, emphasizing differential diagnosis, case selection, treatment planning, and patient management. Third- and fourth-year students rotate in our Pediatric and Orthodontic Clinics, where they gain clinical experiences in limited orthodontic tooth movement and develop treatment strategies for preventive, interceptive, and limited orthodontic problems.
