Meharry President and CEO James E.K. Hildreth, Ph.D., M.D. Named to Serve on Advisory Committee to NIH Director
Meharry Medical College President and CEO James E.K. Hildreth, Ph.D., M.D., has been selected by Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex M. Azar II to serve on the Advisory Committee to the Director, National Institutes of Health (NIH).
“I am honored by the opportunity to serve on the advisory committee to the NIH Director,” Dr. Hildreth said. “This is a privilege that not only recognizes my career in research and science, but also reflects on the place Meharry Medical College holds as a health sciences center.”
According to its charter, the advisory committee is responsible for providing “advice on matters pertinent to National Institutes of Health…mission responsibilities in the conduct and support of biomedical research, medical science, and biomedical communications.”
Among other duties, the committee also “makes recommendations concerning program development, resource allocation, NIH administrative regulation and policy” and other aspects of NIH policy. The committee also “reviews and makes recommendations” on grant applications, cooperative research agreements and project training that demonstrates “promise of making valuable contributions to human knowledge.” The full committee is expected to meet three times per fiscal year.
The term of the appointment begins immediately and extends until December 31, 2021.
