Free Community Baby Shower at Meharry Benefits Many Expectant Parents

Ladson at tableNearly 275 parents and expectant mothers and fathers recently took part in a free community baby shower held at Meharry Medical College.

Baby University, presented by Meharry’s Division of Public Health Practice and an annual collaborative effort of community organizations, took place at The Cal Turner Family Center for Student Education, Saturday, March 17, 2018. Products for new parents were given away, including car seats, pack and plays, a stroller, diapers, gift cards and clothing. Information was made available for new parents on newborn care, safe practices for sleeping infants, pregnancy, insurance and baby health.

Salt Wagon tableOther sponsors included Nashville General Hospital, the Metro Public Health Department, Amerigroup, UnitedHealthcare, Tennessee State University and Metro Nashville Public Schools.

Approximately 60 community organizations were represented at the event. Meharry Medical College departments of OB/GYN, pediatrics, and family medicine were represented. Sickle cell screening was also offered.
