Cost and Disbursement
Cost of Attendance
Cost of Attendance (COA) is the amount it will cost a student to go to school for an academic year. COA is broken down into two types: direct costs and indirect costs.
-
Direct costs are those that must be paid directly to Meharry such as tuition and fees
-
Indirect costs are incidentals, such as living expenses, transportation, miscellaneous expenses, etc.
The indirect costs are included in the cost of attendance to ensure students have the funds necessary to cover other aspects of their lives. It is important to note that these allowances are calculated using averages. Your expenses may be higher or lower depending on your personal budget or spending habits. It is important for you to budget and plan accordingly.

*COA budgets are subject to change
Keep in mind that financial aid awards cannot exceed the total COA. If you have additional educational expenses or budget concerns that may change the amount you have been offered, you could be considered on a case-by-case basis for a possible cost of attendance budget increase. Please contact the Office of Student Financial Aid for more information.
Financial Aid Disbursement
Financial aid funds are sent to Meharry during the first week of classes according to your program. Per federal regulations, credit balances (e.g., refunds) must be available to the student within fourteen (14) calendar days of the disbursement date to the school. Student Financial Services processes refunds to students via direct deposit. An email blast will be sent to your Meharry’s student email account when your loan funds have disbursed. We encourage students to view their student account summary and financial aid data via Banner self-service for up-to-date information.
