At the conclusion of this grand round the attendees will be able to:
• Discuss the current state of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in the US for women and girls.
• Identify the general risk factors for HIV-1 infection in women and girls as well as clinical presentations of HIV infection among this group.
• Discuss HIV mother-to-child transmission and clinical follow up of women and girls at risk for HIV infection during pregnancy.
• Discuss the impact of HIV/AIDS in women 50 years and older.
• Discuss the medical interventions of Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and non occupational post exposure prophylaxis (nPEP) to prevent HIV infection.
