Free Health Clinic in Nashville General Hospital
We offer these free services:
- Free primary care visits with a physician
- Prescription medications and/or refills at no cost, for patients in need
- Diabetes and glucose testing
- Flu vaccinations
- Vision tests
- Blood tests (including sickle cell testing)
First time visiting?
The Salt Wagon Clinic is on the second floor of the Pediatric Clinic in Nashville General Hospital. When entering Nashville General Hospital through the front, the Pediatric Clinic is to the right of the lobby, past the registration desks. When you walk into the clinic, make a left turn and take the elevator on your right.
When you arrive, please wear a mask, bring a personal identification (driver’s license or state ID), and a form of insurance, IF you have them, to the front desk.
We welcome walk-ins, however, patients with appointments will be seen first.
Hours: Thursdays, 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.

Patient safety is our top priority.
We are practicing social distancing, wearing masks and checking temperatures. Please do not come if you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.
Medications
Medications that can be provided at the time of visit include treatments for:
- Hypertension (lisinopril, losartan, metoprolol, hydrochlorothiazide, amlodipine)
- Arthritis (methotrexate, indomethacin, meloxicam, azathioprine)
- High cholesterol (atorvastatin)
- Asthma/COPD (albuterol)
- Hypothyroidism (levothyroxine)
- Diabetes (non-insulin, glucose-lowering agents, like metformin and glipizide)
When to call 911
- Uncontrollable bleeding
- Breathing problems, choking or chest pain
- Unusual behavior, confusion, fainting or loss of consciousness
- Severe vomiting or vomiting blood
- Feeling of committing suicide or murder
- Head, neck or spine injury
- Motor vehicle accident, burns or smoke inhalation, near drowning, deep or large wound
- Swallowing a poisonous substance
- Sudden pain or an allergic reaction

The Salt Wagon Clinic’s mission is to address health care disparities within our community by providing free, high-quality care to Nashville’s underserved populations.
Our Story
Salt Wagon Clinic at Meharry is a student-run, free clinic with faculty physicians at Meharry Medical College. We were founded by Meharry students and the United Neighborhoods Health Services clinic network.
Community Events
The Salt Wagon Clinic also offers free health care services and information through events held in the Nashville community.
