**The Meharry Medical College (MMC) Physician Assistant (P.A.) Sciences Program has developed this statement regarding clinical rotations greater than >50 miles away from the Meharry Medical College campus, that will occur during the Clinical Year Phase V of the P.A. Sciences Program, and will require travel to distant clinical site locations greater than >50 miles away across Tennessee and the continental United States. The Physician Assistant student may be required to incur the living and travel expenses for the Clinical Phase of the P.A. Sciences Program. The Meharry Medical College P.A. Sciences Program advises P.A. students to plan their budgeting for possible living and travel expenses for the Clinical Phase of the MMC P.A. Sciences Program with a minimum possible cost of $4,000 for living and travel expenses for clinical rotations. P.A. students should budget to include expenses that may be incurred to include the following costs for rotations >50 miles away, but are not limited to the following:
- Rental of Apartment or Home/Hotel/or Extended Stay Accommodations
- Airplane/Train/Buses/or Car Travel Expenses
- Gas Expenses
- Food Expenses
- Parking Expenses
However, the MMC P.A. Sciences Program will attempt to place all P.A. students in a less than <50 mile proximity of the MMC P.A. Sciences Program’s campus location, P.A. students cannot be guaranteed that clinical rotations will not have travel greater than >50 miles away to complete their Clinical Year Curriculum with preceptors outside of the state of Tennessee or across the continental United States.
The Meharry Medical College Physician Assistant Sciences Program has applied for Accreditation – Provisional from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). The Meharry Medical College Physician Assistant Sciences Program anticipates matriculating its first class in August of 2022, pending achieving Accreditation – Provisional status at the March, 2022 ARC-PA meeting. Accreditation – Provisional is an accreditation status granted when the plans and resource allocation, if fully implemented as planned, of a proposed program that has not yet enrolled students appear to demonstrate the program’s ability to meet the ARC-PA Standards or when a program holding accreditation-provisional status appears to demonstrate continued progress in complying with the Standards as it prepares for the graduation of the first class (cohort) of students.
