Academic Research Moms’ fund to help childcare expenses for select students
Meharry Medical College is partnering with the Academic Research Moms (ARM) Fund for Medical and Research Trainee Moms to raise funds for childcare expenses for medical and dental students, graduate students, medical residents and postdoctoral fellows. A number of small grants will be awarded to moms of young children (3 years old and under or with special needs up to age 12).
This fundraising effort is working toward a $60,000 goal. “We know how challenging it is to balance parenting with climbing the academic ladder and we want to do something to help level the field for other women with children,” the project website says.
To focus their support on women of color, the proceeds of the ARM fund effort will be split between Meharry Medical College and the HBCU Foundation, which will then distribute the small grants to eligible women within their enrollment networks.
