Institutional Advancement
The Division of Institutional Advancement provides a “window” for others to view Meharry’s mission, contributions, attributes, and goals. In short, the Division cultivates new relationships and strengthens existing relationships, inviting them to ultimately partake of the Meharry experience.
They accomplish this through the hard work and support of these departments:
- Development
- Donor Relations and Prospect Research
- Gift Management Services
- Corporate and Foundation Relations
Their efforts yield greater awareness of Meharry’s mission, contributions, attributes, and goals; foster supportive relationships; and generate private gifts and grants. These departments also work closely with the Meharry National Alumni Association, Inc.
Make a secure online gift
The primary function of the Office of Development is to execute a comprehensive alumni and friends fundraising program that secures gifts for operational and special needs of the College.
With planned giving, you can continue your support and make a lasting impact on Meharry, our graduates, and the communities we serve. For more information about planned giving, contact Gloria D. Sanders, Senior Development Officer at 615.327.6512 or at gsanders@mmc.edu.

Stewardship and Recognition
Meharry Medical College seeks a transparent relationship with all supporters; this includes handling generous gifts responsibly and satisfying all requirements for disclosure.
Unrestricted gifts are directed to our annual giving program known as the Vision Fund. Sixty percent (60%) of all unrestricted funds directly impact students on their academic journey. It is this sort of fiscal responsibility that has led to many generous, long-term donor relationships. These relationships are recognized in three recognition societies:
Guardians of Our Legacy
Recognizes alumni whose cumulative gifts total $100,000+.
Circle of Friends
Recognizes donors at varied giving tiers ranging from $1,000–$100,000. Click here for more information.
West Society
Recognizes planned gift commitments. Click here for more information.

It is our time: Think about the legacy you would like
to leave for Meharry Medical College!
The Meharry Alumni Ambassadors are alumni that volunteer their time and energy solely for the purpose of contributing and generating donations to Meharry Medical College. As advocates, we will continue to promote the College by increasing awareness of its mission, achievements, challenges and goals and the positive impact that Meharry continues to have in sustaining and improving the nation’s health care system.
We have the opportunity to have a profound impact on Meharry and the deserving students following in our footsteps. Any alumnus is welcome to join us in this effort. The criteria for affiliation is a minimum annual contribution of $1,000 to the College and the commitment to encourage at least five other alumni and/or friends to join us in this noble cause.
Through the Meharry Alumni Ambassadors Program, it is our quest to engage and cultivate relationships with alumni and friends to generate gifts for our beloved alma mater.

Conventions
The Meharry National Alumni Association, Inc., has a strong presence each year at the National Dental Association and National Medical Association conventions each year.
Alumni register through our office, and are encouraged to bring their families and show their Meharry spirit by actively participating in the various workshops, recruitment, and family-oriented activities planned. For example, the Office of Alumni Affairs offers a student mentoring and advising program for middle school to professional students, with emphasis in biological health sciences; hosted by local alumni, the program teaches students important life skills, like letter-writing and resume development.
We also host a Meharry Alumni Banquet at each convention.
